This was our second visit to the Amalfi Coast, and we really just wanted some time to chill out and relax.  Since it was early May, the beach clubs weren't open yet, and the water was cold, but there was still so much to explore.  We stayed in Atrani, which we highly recommend if you want something a little more off the beaten path but still close to the ferry in Amalfi for exploring.  We took ferry trips to Capri and Minori, hiked up to Ravello, and just explored both Atrani and Amalfi.

Here are our top picks for the Hidden Gems we discovered while we were there

Atrani

Specifically, you need to visit

• The church at the top of the hill - Collegiate Church of Saint Mary Magdalene Penitente - you’ll be shocked when you walk inside
• Bar Ristorante Il Birecto - we had breakfast here every morning, and I’m still thinking about the homemade croissants, fresh OJ, and cappuccino- the best we had in Italy or France for everything

Amalfi

• Don’t miss the Cathedral of St Andrew Apostle - this one is 4€ to enter, but you’ll also be shocked - it includes the church, museum, chapel, cloister, and catacombs - this is the best thing in Amalfi in our opinion

Minori 

• Ristorante La Botte is off the beaten path and away from the water, but it has the best fresh fish and house-made desserts you’ll have.

• The 2nd one is a small antiques shop that also sells ceramic house numbers and tiles featuring Amalfi Coast towns, but at a fraction of the cost of the “tourist” shops.  The shopkeeper is so nice and even gave me an autographed poster of a photo he took from his home (the view is to die for).  This is the kind of local place we want to support.  I got a tile (the last one he had) of Atrani and also the lemon house numbers I had been wanting.  This is on the street just behind the restaurant, so look for either of the grocery stores, and it’s across the street from them.  He was closed for lunch when we walked by, and then reopened when we had finished our lunch and grabbed more water for our hike up to Ravello at one of the stores.

Ravello 

• Even if you’re not staying at Hotel Graal in Ravello, stop in for a drink - the views high above the Amalfi Coast are amazing.  We were the only ones here in the late afternoon in early May, and it was such a treat to enjoy the view.

Capri 

If you’re taking a day trip to Capri from the Amalfi Coast, don’t miss wandering around

• Old Town Anacapri for a few minutes; it’s a hidden gem I think most people miss
• Make sure to make a stop at Augustus Gardens as well; it’s small, but the views can’t be missed.
