Christmas Market in North Florida - Dickens on Centre, Amelia Island

Dickens on Centre

This Christmas Market is one of our Favorite Things about living on Amelia Island!

Here's what you need to know:

If you’ve ever wondered what Christmas magic looks like wrapped in palm trees and ocean breezes, Amelia Island’s European-style Christmas Market is exactly that—and it’s one of our absolute favorite parts of living here. It has all the cozy, old-world holiday charm you’d expect in Germany or Austria, but with that laid-back coastal Florida twist that just makes you linger a little longer.

What Makes the Amelia Island Christmas Market So Special:

The moment you step into downtown Fernandina Beach during the season, you’re greeted with twinkling lights, rows of wooden vendor stalls, the smell of roasted nuts and warm cider, and the sound of Christmas music drifting through Centre Street. It’s festive without feeling crowded, charming without being kitschy.

I always tell our family: Come hungry, come curious, and leave space in your bag—you’re going to want to bring things home.

What You’ll Find at the Market:

Artisan Gifts & Local Makers

Think hand-poured candles, coastal-inspired art, handcrafted ornaments, homemade jams, and jewelry from small local creators. It’s one of my favorite places to shop for gifts because everything feels personal.

European and Southern Style Food & Treats:

Expect bratwurst, hot pretzels, warm mulled wine (yes, Florida winters do get cool enough for it),  gingerbread, baked goods, and local favorites like shrimp rolls or pralines. We never know what the weather will be like so prepare for warm and cold!

I always make a beeline for anything warm the moment the sun dips; the evening breeze off the water gives you the perfect excuse.

Live Entertainment & Festive Atmosphere

Carolers, musicians, and even a visit from Santa. If you stay after dusk, the market glows.

When & Where It Happens

  • Location: Downtown Fernandina Beach, centered along historic Centre Street and along the side streets, all the way from the marina to 8th Street (Tip - we recommend parking north of Centre Street in the area of 4th or 5th and Calhoun)

  • Timing: Typically early–mid December, with weekend hours (Friday evening through Sunday). Dates vary each year, so check the official Amelia Island events calendar if you’re planning ahead. For 2025 the Dates are Dec 11-14th and you can see more details on the official site here.

One of my favorite memories is dressing up in our Dickens Inspired Costumes, wandering the stalls right at opening, sipping a hot cider while the harbor breeze rolled in—a rare moment where a Christmas market and beach town vibes blended perfectly.

Tips for Making the Most of Your Visit

1. Start on Thurday night with the Lantern Procession - followed by the first drone show

Anyone can join in, get the details here.

2. Bring a Tote Bag

Trust me. Every year I think I won’t buy much, and every year I walk out with soaps, ornaments, and at least one locally made snack I swore I didn’t need.

3. Want to sit down for awhile, Mark Nearby Restaurants in Google Maps

Downtown spots like Wicked Bao, the Boathouse, the Patio at Fifth & Ash, and Mezcal get busy fast during market days.

I always save a handful of backups so I can pivot when hunger hits. See our FULL Amelia Island Guide Here.

 4. Stay Nearby If You Can

The historic district is ridiculously walkable. If you snag a stay near Centre Street, you can wander the market, grab dinner, and stroll back under the holiday lights. Pure magic. Here's our list of places to stay.

5. Dress in Layers

You never know what weather you will get, and even if it is warm one minute, Florida evenings can surprise you—especially near the water. A light jacket is your friend. Pack for both hot and cold conditions so you can adjust as needed.

Why We Don't Miss it (and Why You Won't Want to either)

It’s festive without being frantic. It supports local artisans. It smells like cinnamon and popcorn. And best of all, it brings the whole island together in a way that makes you remember why coastal towns feel like home. There are things for adults and kids, and even Santa and the big surprise each evening.
